'Illegally dumped' waste in Carlisle cleared by council
The waste was discovered 'down the back of Willow Holme' towards Raffles Bridge and was cleared by a council team on Sunday, February 1.
According to the council, the fly-tipping incident had not been reported through its systems and stated that, due to its location being on private land, it 'would not normally' collect waste from this area.
However, 'on this occasion', the council cleared the dumped waste.
A Cumberland Council spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, the individual responsible chose not to use the proper facilities for waste disposal.
"This careless and irresponsible behaviour has forced Cumberland Council to divert valuable resources to deal with an issue that could easily have been avoided.
"We want to thank all residents who continue to use recycling and waste facilities responsibly. Your efforts help keep these areas clean, safe and accessible for everyone.
"Cumberland Council takes environmental crimes extremely seriously. Every report of fly-tipping is investigated, and offenders may face prosecution.
"Fly-tipping is more than an eyesore, it poses real risks to public health and the environment, attracting vermin, polluting natural habitats and creating hazards for the community.
"We all have a part to play in keeping our area clean and beautiful. Please continue to dispose of waste responsibly, and if you witness fly-tipping in your area, report it here: https://www.cumberland.gov.uk/bins-recycling-and-street-cleaning/street-cleaning/fly-tipping"
