The partnership was the joint winner of the Excellence in Education award along with Preston from the national Community Alcohol Partnerships body at a ceremony in London on Wednesday, April 2.
Emma Thompson received an award on behalf of the Workington Community Alcohol Partnership (CAP).
Emma, a community safety and resilience manager, chairs the Cumberland Community Alcohol Partnership, formerly the separate Workington, South Cumberland, and Longtown and Brampton Community Alcohol Partnership.
The partnership has, with colleagues from Cumbria Addictions Advice and Solutions (CADAS), carried out work in schools, finding out first-hand how alcohol impacts young people’s lives.
The Community Alcohol Partnership, one of 250 across Britain addressing underage drinking, vaping and drugs, with Cumberland Council’s Public Health, Licensing and Trading Standards, Cumbria Police, CADAS, and Young Health Champions.
It has worked closely with schools to gain insight into pupils’ use of alcohol. The results of an extensive survey are being used to help youth services and health organisations provide the right support for young people.
