Partners come together to clean up ‘The Line’ in Workington
The litter picks will take place on 18 April and 2 May between 10am and 2pm, with equipment being provided by Cumberland Council.
Members of the public are welcome to help tidy up the area with partners.
Work has already begun to make it a safer place for everyone to enjoy with overgrown vegetation cleared in January, making it a more open and lighter space, new signage and the covering of graffiti are the next steps in improving the area.
The work to improve ‘The Line’ is supported Safer Streets Funding came from a successful bid to the Home Office from the Office of the Police Fire and Crime Commissioner.
Sergeant Scott Adams from Workington’s Neighbourhood Policing Team said “This is the next phase in making ‘The Line’ a place people feel safe walking and enjoy.
“We started this project after women and girls told us they didn’t feel safe due to anti-social behaviour and drug use.
“From feedback we have received so far, its already becoming a more welcoming place for dog walkers and runners.
“Removing the litter will further clean up the area, and we thank our partners and Morgan Sindall for supporting in making our area a better place.”
Emma Thompson, Allerdale Local Focus Hub Manager said “The Local Focus Hub partners support ‘The Line’ project to enhance our spaces and improve the feeling of safety in our communities.
"The Violence Against Women and Girls agenda is a priority for the Local Focus Hub partnership, we want to work alongside our community to make a sustainable change to this popular access route into Workington Town Centre.
